Two giants of Canadian rock, Randy Bachman and Fred Turner, are back together again and ready to take care of business. In the mid ‘70s there was no one bigger than Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Over a four year run they earned a staggering 120 platinum, gold and silver disks notching up hits in over 20 countries. The hard rock Canadian quartet reached #1 on both the Billboard singles and album charts as well as placing a half dozen more songs in the Top 50. “Takin’ Care of Business”, “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet”, “Let It Ride”, “Roll On Down the Highway”, “Hey You”, “Blue Collar”, “Not Fragile”, “Four Wheel Drive”, “Looking Out For #1”, “My Wheels Won’t Turn” – all classic rock anthems written by Bachman and Turner. Their success was staggering and spread across the globe. In their heyday, Bachman-Turner Overdrive sold in excess of 30 million records and performed at the biggest arenas in the world from Madison Square Gardens, and Detroit’s Cobo Hall to Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. Between 1974 and 1976 the band was an unstoppable colossus, their distinctive brand of striped down, blue collar, meat ‘n’ potatoes rock enjoying a universal ‘ordinary Joe’ appeal. Having scaled the heights of the rock ‘n’ roll pantheon with Canada’s first rock superstars, Winnipeg’s Guess Who, Randy proved to all his detractors not to count him out. Bachman-Turner Overdrive eclipsed the Guess Who’s success. What brought the two rock icons together after so many years? The music. After they split in the mid ‘80s, Randy and Fred went their separate ways, Randy to a solo career, the much-celebrated Guess Who reunion followed by Bachman-Cummings, as well as establishing himself as a jazz artist and radio personality (Randy’s Vinyl Tap on CBC and Sirius satellite radio is heard by millions worldwide each week). Fred carried on with the other members of Bachman-Turner Overdrive before retiring from music at the end of the ‘90s. But there was a lingering feeling that Randy and Fred weren’t done just yet. Then last year, Randy began recording a solo rock album with the intention of featuring different vocalists. He and Fred had rekindled their friendship years before and after inviting Fred to sing on the title track, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Is the Only Way Out,” their one-off collaboration evolved quite naturally and organically into a Bachman & Turner album. And now a Bachman & Turner tour. “I’m thrilled to be working on new music with Fred,” enthuses Randy, “and feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. I feel like I’m coming full circle with a completeness that I never ever thought I’d feel again. It’s incredible!” Bachman & Turner is not about reliving old glories; Randy and Fred are motivated by a sincere desire to make new music. “If I had a chance to go out and play new things and grow, then I’ll be offering people something,” offers Fred. It’s all about the music, the creative process, collaboration and teamwork of two old friends and partners. Nothing contrived. Reunited, Randy Bachman and Fred Turner are offering their legion of fans something new and taking care of some ‘unfinished’ business as well.
